World Book and Copyright Day 2025

Celebrated every April 23 since 1996, World Book and Copyright Day, promoted by UNESCO, was established to encourage reading and protect copyright.
The date pays tribute to three great authors who died in 1616: Miguel de Cervantes, William Shakespeare, and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, and is also linked to the Catalan tradition of Sant Jordi, during which books and roses are exchanged as gifts.
For 2025, Rio de Janeiro has been designated as World Book Capital:
"Books are vital vehicles to access, transmit and promote education, science, culture and information worldwide. Thanks to books, we keep ourselves informed, entertained and are able to better understand our world. This is why, each year UNESCO designates a World Book Capital."
