How to find journal articles

Helping your study in the field of social sciences, use citation databases such as Scopus and Web of science (for international publications in all fields) or DoGiIusimpresaESSPER (for Italian publications in Law and Social Sciences).

These resources will be very useful to build your personal reference list.

Once you have a list of citations, check if the Library holds the publications, how to locate them in the physical library or to download documents in one click.

Search other catalogs

For items not available in our library, you can search other national catalogs ACNP or SBN. If documents are accessible in Rome, you can refer directly to the library. Differently, you can ask for a copy of the article you are interested in through the Document Delivery service.

Differences between articles and other publications

Remember to define if the citation refers to a book or a journal. In a contributed book, authors or coauthors write individual chapters under the guidance of an editor who assembles those chapters into a book. Otherwise, articles or research papers present the findings of the author's research based on original data.

Here some practical information you can apply to easily distinguish your citations:

  • Book chapters are defined by the author's name, title of the chapter, editor's name of the work, title of the work, publication place, publisher's name, date of publication, and pages.
  • Journal articles are defined by the author's name, title of the article, title of the journal, number/year of the issue, and pages.
